Adventures in the Wonderful World of Math!

Welcome to the Home Page for Resource Math!

We Educators realize that your job as a parent or guardian is increasingly challenging!  Continue to help us to help your student succeed.  Emphasize the satisfaction of finished work, the peace of mind that a good job can bring, and the pleasure of new-skills can bring.

This week is the Sixth Week of the Sixth Six Weeks in this second semester.  Hopefully good grades can be made better, and grades not up to expectations can still be brought up by studying hard and applying more  outside time. So, You see that more and more effort is being required from your student.  Accepting responsibility for paying attention in class and for putting aside what seems like fun for long-term  goals is part of the maturation process.  Your student can do it!

Find good things to brag about your student!  You will be amazed at the changes!

Thank you for visiting this website.  My name is Cheryl White and I am either your student's Resource Math Teacher or English, or Math Inclusion teacher.  This is going to be a great year for you and your student as Math Skills and other skills will be reinforced and expanded.

Math must be becoming more LOGICAL to your student. We are working on Story Problems that require your student to think about the steps that it takes to answer the questions correctly.  We are also reviewing math vocabulary.  By now, your student should be used to schedule changes, regular homework days and increased challenges.

This is my 25th year to teach.  I am proud of being a third generation teacher.  My grandmother taught in a one-room schoolhouse, and my mother taught in high schools and at University level.  I have two all-level teaching certifications that have enabled me to teach students from Early Childhood  to Adult Education Programs.  While teaching in Florida, I was selected as "Teacher of the Year" by my fellow staff members.  That honor motivates me to be the best that I can be.

Those parents that know me, know that I am very patriotic.  I now have only one of my of three sons in Active Duty with the Army. Afghanistan is where they both were.  My older son, Carlton, who is a JAG lawyer, and was stationed in Kabul, Afghanistan, was in an area that had been reclassified as dangerous, and has been being the target of many attacks lately. PRAISE the LORD! He is back in the USA in Virginia. But, my 6'5" baby boy Phillip is still on his second tour there in Army Aviation. He is a Blackhawk Medivac driver, aka, lead Pilot.  Please keep them in your prayers.  Phillip is still at a base close to the Pakistan border where all of the action seems to be, and he is flying daily missions as the war intensifies. My other son is working, traveling, and slowly completing his college degree.  Yes, I am a very proud Mom.  I have four grandchildren, two boys and two girls.  They are attending school in Texas and North Carolina.  Yes, they are wonderful, beautiful, funny and take after their Mammow in all their good traits!

If you are reading this page, you care about your child also.  Thank you.

    My long-held teaching philosophy is:

Students who cannot read or compute math or who do not understand the importance of science or our history, will become the adults who cannot maximize their potentials.  A person who cannot read, understand history or commonly understood science principles, or compute math is at the mercy of an often very merciless world.  They become the victims of society.  My goal is for everyone of my students to be "VICTORS" not victims.  In order for this to happen, I expect your student to:  Listen, Explore, Evaluate, Learn, Remember, and Expand what he/she will be exposed to in class.  I believe that when students realize the value of what knowledge presented can mean to their future earning potentials, and understand problem solving processes, that they will make the good choices of choosing to put forth the extra effort it takes for them to learn and retain knowledge.

In Math Resource:
This week in Resource Math, we will continue to review and to explore problems concerning Ratio; Proportions; and Cross Products.  Last week we further explored Percentage; Fractions; and Decimals.
Please feel free to contact me at: 1-713-979-8501 if you have any questions or concerns.

Thank you and Aloha,

Cheryl White
